BTC/USDT daily with long-term averages

Since 2017-08-17 · Binance

Binance's BTCUSDT history starts on 2017-08-17, so the 200-day line begins in March 2018, the 350-day line in August 2018 and the 200-week line in June 2021. The last candle is today's (UTC) daily candle, still forming. ▼Pi marks a Pi Cycle Top cross; ▲ marks a halving day.

What this tool does

Bitcoin has moved through large booms and busts roughly in step with its four-year halving cycle. This tool puts the five long-term indicators investors most often use to judge where the cycle stands (the 200-week moving average, the Mayer Multiple, the Pi Cycle Top, drawdown from the record high and the halving cycle) on one screen, computed from real Binance BTCUSDT daily and weekly candles, and shows how today's readings rank against the recorded history.

How it is calculated

Data: Binance BTCUSDT daily candles (from 2017-08-17) and weekly candles. The 200-week moving average is the simple average of 200 weekly closes; on the daily chart each day shows the average of the previous 199 weekly closes plus that day's close, which equals the weekly value when the week ends. 200-week multiple = price ÷ 200-week average; the line's 4-week change compares the 200-week average with its value 28 days earlier. Mayer Multiple = close ÷ 200-day simple moving average, with reference lines at 0.8 (often cited as historically undervalued), 1.0 and 2.4 (often cited as overheated); the distribution table uses 0.8, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.4 as boundaries. Pi Cycle Top compares the 111-day SMA with 2 × the 350-day SMA and marks closed daily candles where the 111-day crosses above; ratio = 111-day ÷ (2 × 350-day). Drawdown = close ÷ highest close to date − 1, and every decline of 20% or more from a record close is listed. Halvings: 2012-11-28, 2016-07-09, 2020-05-11 and 2024-04-20; cycles are compared as an index with the halving-day (UTC) daily close = 100 (100 × close ÷ halving-day close). The next halving is estimated for around April 2028, and 2028-04-15 is used for the countdown. The latest candles are fetched again every 5 minutes.

Reading the screen, section by section

Top controls: period, price scale, moving averages

The three button groups above the chart only decide what is shown; they never change a calculated value. Period (All, 4Y, 2Y, 1Y) fits the time axis to the last 1,461, 730 or 365 days, while All shows everything from the first candle on 2017-08-17. Price scale switches between log and linear, and the four moving-average buttons (200D, 200W, 111D, 2×350D) toggle each line. Your choices are stored in the address bar and the browser, so a shared link or a return visit opens the same view. A common misunderstanding is that picking 1Y recalculates the 200-week line or the Mayer Multiple over one year; the indicators are always computed from the full history and only the visible window narrows. Hidden lines are also dimmed in the legend.

Latest readings: six cards and a summary

The cards show the BTC price (with a KRW reference below: the USDT price times the USDT/KRW rate from Bithumb, or Upbit as a fallback), the 200-week average with the price multiple and the line's change versus 28 days ago, the Mayer Multiple with the share of closed daily candles that were lower, the Pi Cycle ratio with the last cross, the drawdown from the record close with its date, and days since the halving with months to the next one. The paragraph below restates them and adds how many weekly candles closed under the 200-week line and the cycle progress. The cards use today's unfinished UTC candle, so they move until the day ends. If the ratio is above 1 but the summary says no cross is confirmed yet, it crossed only on today's candle, not on a closed one.

BTC/USDT daily with long-term averages

Binance BTCUSDT daily candles are overlaid with the 200-day SMA, the 200-week average, the 111-day SMA and twice the 350-day SMA. The 200-week line is drawn on each daily slot as the average of the previous 199 weekly closes plus that day's close, so it matches the weekly value on the day a week ends. ▲ below a candle marks a halving day; ▼Pi above marks a closed daily candle where the 111-day line crossed above 2×350-day. The rightmost candle is today's, still forming, so its high, low and close change with every refresh and the legend says it is forming. Dates are UTC, so in Korea a new daily candle starts at 9 a.m. Because the data begins on 2017-08-17, the 200-day line starts in March 2018, the 350-day in August 2018 and the 200-week in June 2021; the gaps before that are not errors.

Mayer Multiple and drawdown panes

The two panes under the main chart share its time axis. The first plots the Mayer Multiple, close ÷ 200-day SMA, with dashed reference lines at 0.8, 1.0 and 2.4; the second plots close ÷ highest close so far − 1 as a percentage. Hover or press on any pane and the crosshairs in all three line up on the same day while the legends switch to that day's close, averages, multiple and drawdown, so you can compare any past day with today in numbers. Drawdown uses closes, so a brief intraday high never counts as the record. If today's unfinished close goes above the record close, drawdown reads 0%, but it turns negative again if price slips back before the day ends. The 0.8 and 2.4 lines are reference levels cited from past episodes, not fixed signals.

Halving cycle comparison

The horizontal axis is days after a halving (D+n), not calendar dates, and the vertical axis is an index on a log scale where the halving-day UTC close equals 100. The 3rd (2020-05-11) and 4th (2024-04-20) cycles are overlaid, so you can see which day of the cycle it is now and what the 3rd cycle's index was on the same day. The dot on each line marks the highest index reached up to that day count. The table lists each halving's block number, reward change, close that day, index at the same day count, high so far and the gap to it; halvings #1 and #2 predate Binance's market, so their price cells are empty. Halving #5 is an estimate from the block pace, and the countdown uses 2028-04-15. Similar shapes are no evidence that the next path will match, and there are only two cycles to compare.

Major drawdowns

This table follows the record close on closed daily candles and collects every stretch where price fell 20% or more below it. Each row shows the peak date and close, the lowest trough date and close in between, the depth, days from peak to trough, and days until that peak close was regained. A stretch not yet recovered sits at the top with an ongoing tag and the number of days since the peak. Today's unfinished candle is excluded, so even if the low deepens intraday the table changes only after the day closes. Peaks are Binance daily closes and can differ from intraday highs on other exchanges. Pullbacks smaller than 20% do not appear here; check those in the drawdown pane above.

Mayer Multiple distribution

From the first day the 200-day line exists, the Mayer Multiple of every closed daily candle is sorted into five zones split at 0.8, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.4 (below 0.8, 0.8 to 1.0, 1.0 to 1.5, 1.5 to 2.4, 2.4 and above), with the day count, its share of the total and the last day seen in each. The zone holding today's value is tagged Now, and the card's share of lower days is counted from the same closed-candle sample. Counts grow once a day, when the daily candle closes. Landing in a zone with a small share means the position is rare in the record, not that a reversal is near. The sample is Binance data from March 2018 onward only, so highs and lows before 2017 are not included.

Pi Cycle Top crosses

Every closed daily candle on which the 111-day SMA crossed above twice the 350-day SMA is listed. Each row shows the close on the cross day, the highest close in the next 30 days and the lowest close in the next 365 days as percentages of that close, and the day the 111-day line crossed back below. If 30 or 365 days have not passed yet, the cell stays blank. Crosses are judged on closed candles only, so even if the ratio tops 1 on today's candle, the row appears after the day ends. The 350-day line can be computed from August 2018, so crosses near the 2013 and 2017 tops are absent. With only a few rows it is hard to generalize what follows a cross, and some tops, such as November 2021, passed without one.

Keeping it open

Every 5 minutes the page re-downloads only the last few daily candles and appends them, along with fresh weekly candles and the KRW rate. The last fetch time sits next to the Latest readings title, and the connection state appears in the status badge at the top. When the browser tab is hidden, refreshing pauses; when it becomes visible again and 5 minutes have passed, it fetches at once. If the first load fails, it retries once after 30 seconds. These are long-term indicators that barely move over minutes, so the order below is enough. Just after 9 a.m. Korea time the daily candle closes and the tables' counts and records update. For short-term moves keep a minute chart or a kimchi premium screen open alongside, and for the bigger picture a monthly returns table.

  • Start with the drawdown and Mayer Multiple cards.
  • Check the Pi Cycle ratio and whether a cross is confirmed on a closed candle in the summary.
  • After 9 a.m. Korea time, look for changes in the drawdown and distribution tables.

Things to know

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no data before 2017?

Binance's BTCUSDT market opened on 17 August 2017, so there are no earlier candles. The 200-day line therefore starts in March 2018, the 350-day line in August 2018 and the 200-week line in June 2021. The 2013 top and the first two halving cycles cannot be shown here; the December 2017 top appears in the price and drawdown, but before the moving averages exist, so not in the 200-day, 200-week or Pi Cycle readings.

Why does the 200-week moving average get so much attention?

It is the average price over roughly four years, one halving cycle, so it is widely quoted as a long-term floor. Several past bear-market lows formed near it, but price has also stayed below it for months, as in 2022. The tool therefore also shows how many closed weekly candles finished below the line.

What is the Mayer Multiple?

An indicator introduced by Bitcoin investor Trace Mayer: price divided by the 200-day moving average. Above 1 means price is above the 200-day line, below 1 means under it. Readings below 0.8 are often cited as historically undervalued and above 2.4 as overheated, but these are reference values from past cases, not fixed rules.

How is a Pi Cycle Top cross determined?

It is the day the 111-day moving average rises above twice the 350-day moving average. Today's candle keeps changing, so crosses are marked on closed daily candles only. The closer the ratio (111-day ÷ 2 × 350-day) gets to 1, the nearer a cross is; the day it goes above 1 is the cross.

How often does it update, and are today's values final?

The latest candles are fetched every 5 minutes. The readings and the last candle include today's unfinished daily candle (UTC), so they keep moving until the day closes. Cross markers, the drawdown table and the distribution use closed candles only. The KRW price is the USDT price times Bithumb's USDT/KRW rate (Upbit as a fallback), a reference only.
